  • Thornton, who now avoids several food groups due to his dietary restrictions, said that as a child he "just assumed everybody felt like s--- after they ate"

  • The actor also talked about creative snack combinations that he enjoys as a result of the diet restrictions

Billy Bob Thorntonis opening up about the rare health condition that limits his diet.

In the May 5 episode ofHowie Mandel's podcast,Howie Mandel Does Stuff, the 70-year-oldLandmanactor discussed the rare reason for his restrictive diet after the comedian host, also 70, brought up a story about a snack their sons once shared.

Thornton explained that his diet is “very restricted” during the conversation with Mandel, and elaborated after the podcaster tilted his head and donned a curious expression.

“Well, I'm allergic to wheat, dairy. I have type AB-negative blood, which is the rarest type in the world. It's, like, less than 1% of the population of the world has it,” Thornton explained. (Per theRed Cross Blood Donation, less than 1% of the United States population has AB-negative blood, which makes it “the least common blood type among Americans.”)

TheBad Santaactor went on to explain that, at least for him, the rare blood type caused some stomach issues, on top of other unrelated dietary restrictions.

"It means you have less digestive enzymes. That's one of the things that goes along with it,” he said of his blood type. (No studies have shown a clear link between eating according to your blood type and better health, though Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo of the “Blood Type Diet” fame believes that people with type AB blood “tend to have low stomach acid,” perWebMD.)

Thornton, who lived in Arkansas and Texas as a child, said that additionally, he “grew up with a lot of allergies but “ate everything.”

“I just assumed everybody felt like s--- after they ate. I didn't know,” he said of his childhood health woes. “But anyway, I can't have dairy, wheat… can't eat meat, like, you know, pork or beef or any of that stuff.”

“You've just listed the entire pyramid,” Mandel then joked, and asked what Thornton is able to eat given the limitations of his health conditions.

TheSling Bladeactor then revealed that before arriving to film theHowie Mandel Does Stuffepisode, he had eaten a “bowl of blueberries” and drank a decaf coffee. “But when I get home, it's, like, wide open,” he explained of his eating habits.

“I'm going to have some gluten-free chips with some dairy-free cream cheese,” Thornton said. “So, I'm really looking forward to that.”

Thornton first learned of his rare blood type in the late ‘80s, which prompted him to eliminate wheat, dairy, red meat and more from his diet, according toMashed. And in 2020, he summed his diet up on theMental Amandapodcast, stating, "I call myself a vegan who cheats — but I don't cheat that bad.”

The topic of diet arose after Mandel recalled a peculiar snack that Mandel's sonAlex, who is friends with Thornton's sonWilliam, had while visiting theBanditsstar's house: “Bagels, cream cheese and ketchup.”

Thornton owned the dish, stating, “That's a hillbilly bagel,” as Alex, who was on the set of the podcast recording, chimed in to say, “Yeah. No, it was really good.”

TheLandmanstar also revealed that he found another odd but enjoyable snack combination at a recent event for the Paramount+ series with one of his costars,Sam Elliott.

“We were at this place, and normally in these green rooms, they got a spread. You can usually find something,” Thornton recalled to Mandel. “And they had one little silver tray that was nothing but like salami and prosciutto and another tray full of crackers and stuff that I couldn't … all the starchy things were over here on this tray. But that's all they had. And I'm like, ‘Well, s---. I can't have any of this.' ”

“But in the middle of the cracker thing, they had some grapes,” he continued. “And I got a white grape. I'm like, ‘Okay, so I'll be bored as hell with this.' And then I saw some spicy Dijon mustard and I thought, ‘Now, I wonder.' ”

So, he dipped the grape in the mustard — and according to the actor, it was a treat. “It was one of the best things I ever had in my lifetime,” Thornton said. “So now it's become a thing for me.”

Taylor Swiftis back in London, this time not with with herLondon boy, but with her husband-to-be,Travis Kelce. Yesterday, the pop superstar and the NFL tight end spent the most romantic night out in the city, attending Sadie Sink’s West End showRomeo & Julietand grabbing dinner at Indian restaurant Gymkhana.

Swift and Kelce coordinated in sharp looks for the evening. Kelce showed off his maximalist style in a gray Louis Vuitton monogram suit, which he styled with a black T-shirt and Bottega Veneta’s black, woven leatherSunday slippers. He added an extra ounce of luxury via a diamond tennis necklace.

The “Opalite” singer, meanwhile, was lovely in a black floral-print dress from Zimmerman (a brand she’s tappedmore than once). The piece had a sweetheart neckline, a corset bodice, and a flowing skirt.

Swift paired the springtime staple with a sleek black coat that reached down below her knees, and a mint-green basket bag fromJW Anderson, for a fresh pop of color. Stepping into the warm months, Swift slipped on a pair of strappy stiletto sandals that criss-crossed up her feet and gave a peek at her pedicure: a shimmery showgirl pink.

Dangly diamond earrings and a delicate diamond necklace accessorized the 14-time Grammy winner’s ensemble. And for glam, she stayed loyal to her signature look: wispy bangs, a black cat eye, and a reddish lip.

Swift and Kelce’s West End date night does not come as a total surprise, as Swift is good friends with Sink, the star of the newRomeo & Julietadaptation. The actor and the singer worked together onAll Too Well: The Short Film, released in 2021. Sadie starred opposite Dylan O’Brien in the project, which won several Best Video awards, including a Grammy. Now, Swift is showing her support for Sink, who will finish her run in the play at Harold Pinter Theatre on June 20.

A Parsippany Department of Public Works worker who wasseriously injured on the job last monthhas been released from the hospital and is "beginning his long road of rehabilitation," according to his friends at the Mt. Tabor Volunteer Fire Department.

Aliens at Kew Gardens? No, it’s Henry Moore’s magnificent sculptures

Spring is always the season of new growth and horticultural blossoming, but the paths, pastures, and glasshouses ofKew Gardenshave been struck by a rather different arrival this year. Across the 320 acres of gardens, 30 monumental sculptures by Henry Moore have taken root – their bronze, curving forms appearing like aliens or spaceships touched down in England’s green and pleasant land.

The Telegraph Three Piece Sculpture Vertebrae (1968-69) seems to run counter to the Victorian splendour of Kew's palm house

Brilliantly full of bothwell-known worksand unexpected gems,Monumental Natureis the largest outdoor exhibition of Moore’s work to date. Its span is huge, ranging from the artist’s earliest monumental bronzes made in the 1950s all the way through to his 1980s experiments in fibreglass forms, made just before he died in 1986. An exhibition-within-an-exhibition at the Shirley Sherwood Gallery Botanical Art shows offMoore’s smaller models, maquettes and works on paper – including early drawings from the 1930s, and rarely-seen sculptures in more experimental materials like silver and terracotta.

Family Group 1948-49

Much has been made of Moore’s love of the natural environment; his affirmation that “sculpture is an art of the open air”, and “its best setting and complement is nature”. The installation at Kew has taken Moore’s maxims to heart. As I approached the slippery, oval shapes ofLarge Two Forms(1969) – a work which shifts and changes depending on the angle you see it from –  I was surrounded by a gaggle of fellow critics: geese, pecking at the grass in the sculpture’s shadow. One work,Sheep Piece(1971-2), which hints obliquely at the form of an ewe with her lamb, bears the patina and marks of the sheep which rubbed up against it when Moore placed it in a field near his home in Hertfordshire.

In parts of the show, Moore’s love of natural forms seems to run counter to the Victorian splendour of Kew. One of his bone-like pieces,Three Piece Sculpture: Vertebrae(1968-69), sits in front of the Palm House. Moore’s irregular, undulating tripartite form seems to echo – or mock – the pane-glass and wrought-iron symmetry of the older building.

1980s experiments in fibreglass forms

Moore is perhaps best known for his“Mother and Child” sculptures, where one form cradles, holds, or engulfs another. It’s a motif which is not as domestic as it sounds – Moore’s maternal forms verge on the menacing, and are bound up with his ideas of armour and protection. One reclining iteration from 1975-6 on show at Kew renders the child as an angular, jagged outpost of the mother.

But having seen the riches of Kew’s smaller exhibition – full of examples embryonic forms contained within plaster bodies, and anthropomorphic, natural figures – it’s hard not to think of new life and things growing. With the sheer breadth of work on show, this is an exhibition which allows Moore’s work to be seen anew.

“Price Is Right” contestant wins largest single-game prize in show's 54-year history

A contestant on Friday's episode of The Price Is Right set a new all-time high in winnings from a single pricing game.

Key Points

  • Vanessa from Virginia walked away with $240,150 in cash and prizes after playing Lion's Share.

  • This new record surpasses the last, set in 2010, by more than $30,000.

After more than five decades on the air,The Price Is Rightis still breaking records.

A contestant on Friday's episode of the long-running game show set a new all-time high in winnings from a single pricing game. After several wild rounds of the game Lion's Share, Vanessa from Virginia walked away with $240,150 in cash and prizes— the largest one-game haul a contestant has ever won in the CBS daytime show's 54-year history.

The retired veteran made her mark in a special Mother's Day-themed episode, with her daughter cheering her on from the sidelines.

Lion's Share, an MGM-branded game that premiered last year as a replacement for Pay the Rent, revolves around grocery price guessing.

In the game, each contestant is able to win up to five balls depending on their number of correct guesses. Balls are then dropped into a wind tunnel, which reveal hidden prize amounts. But that's not all: HostDrew Careythen commands contestants to choose between walking away with the dollar value displayed on the screen or risking it all to grow their earnings further.

That's exactly what Vanessa did, and after very little deliberation. Continued correct guesses yielded more prize balls, which revealed more earnings, eventually loading her up with $227,500 in cash. A luxury trip to Morocco valued at $12,650 ultimately brought her total up to $240,150.

Vanessa's win clears the previous record by a wide margin. In 2016, contestant Christen Freeman won $210,000 in the game Cliffhangers, and also walked away with a steam iron, portable heater, and drink mixer.

Vanessa may be the biggest winner when it comes to earnings from a single game, but her $240,150 total is no match for the overall killing that one contestant made in a 2019 episode.

Michael Stouber left the roller coaster ride of an episode with a grand total of $262,743 in cash and prizes. That included $202,000 from a game of Plinko, a nearly $30,000 Showcase win, an equivalent value Nissan Sentra S, a $1,475 diamond bracelet, and more.
