Daniel Dae Kim said he still has “nothing but affection” for Lost more than 15 years after the show's finale

Daniel Dae Kimis getting candid about how he feelsaboutLost16 years after the series finale aired in May 2010.

Kim, 57, recently caught up with PEOPLE exclusively at the Gold Gala at The Music Center in downtown Los Angeles. During the conversation, he said that he “has nothing but affection” for the hit ABC series, which premiered in 2004 and ran for six seasons.

“I think there were difficulties on the show — as we've learned —  most of which I didn't know at the time. But at the same time, I've made lifelong friends through that show. It helped my career in a way that no other job has,” he explained.

“Lostreally gave me opportunities that no other job had, and I don't think I'd be here today without it,” he added.

In the years following the show's finale, a number of writers and cast members came forward with claims oftoxicity, sexism and racismbehind the scenes, with one former writer calling the show's work environment “nakedly hostile,” in a 2023Vanity Fairexpose.

Still, Kim told PEOPLE he has remained in touch with a number of his former castmates.

“Harold Perrinea— I'm in touch with regularly. [Henry] Ian Cusick I'm in touch with regularly.Josh Holloway, I'm in touch with. The raft boys from season 1. We bonded over that experience,” he said, referring to the characters who attempted to escape the island on a small handmade raft at the end of the first season.

As to whether Kim has rewatched the series since it ended?

“I haven't done a rewatch, actually, and it's something I've been meaning to do. So I think it's in my near future,” he told PEOPLE.

The Avatar: The Last Airbenderstar went on to share his feelings about the show's polarizing series finale, which revealed a reality-altering truth about the characters' time on the now-iconic island.

“I cared most about the characters, and the fact that the characters were all together at the end of the series was the thing that mattered most to me,” he said.

“And so I found that really satisfying because, as actors, we could say goodbye to each other in those final scenes,” he added.

Pivoting to the present, the Korean-born actor shared details about his most recent project,K-Everything, a four-part CNN series that he both hosts and executive produced.

“It's a docuseries about the rise of Korean culture: four episodes, one on K-beauty, one onK-pop, one on K-drama and [one on] K-food,” he explained.

All four episodes ofK-Everythingare currently streaming on HBO Max.
